Best fishing windows are typically the hour before to two hours after a
tide change — bait moves, fish feed. For tarpon May–July, target
outgoing tides at the passes; for snook year-round, target dock lights an hour
after sunset.

How much does a fishing charter cost?
Rates vary by captain, vessel, trip length, and group size. Half-day inshore trips typically start in the low hundreds; offshore and tarpon trips run higher because of fuel, longer days, and specialized tackle. Call or text 941-294-4144 for current rates and availability.
What's included on a charter?
On a typical trip: rods, reels and tackle; bait; ice and cooler space for your catch; USCG-required safety gear; and a captain who knows these specific waters. Anglers aboard a licensed for-hire vessel are covered by the captain's vessel licence, so you do not buy your own. Exactly what comes with your trip varies by captain and boat — a long offshore day and a two-hour bay trip are not stocked the same — so the booking confirmation is what governs.
What should I bring?
Reef-safe sunscreen, polarized sunglasses (you really need these — fish-spotting and eye protection), a hat or buff, non-marking soft-sole shoes, snacks and drinks (no glass), and a camera or phone for photos. For offshore trips: Dramamine if you're prone to seasickness — take it the night before, not the morning of.
Are the trips good for kids and beginners?
Yes — the Family & Kids charters are calm-water inshore trips built around young anglers and first-timers. No fishing experience needed. Age minimums are the captain's call and vary by boat: some are happy with toddlers on a short bay trip, others set a floor. Tell us the ages when you enquire and we will match you to a captain who runs that trip well.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The captain makes the safety call, usually the evening before or at the dock. Light rain and chop rarely cancel a trip; thunderstorms and small-craft advisories do. Standard practice across the network is that a captain's own weather cancellation rolls to a new date or refunds your deposit — but the terms are the captain's, so get them in writing when you book. If you cancel for your own reasons, different terms usually apply.
Do I need a fishing license?
Not for the charter itself — anglers fishing aboard a properly licensed for-hire vessel are covered by the vessel's licence, so you do not buy your own. Fish from shore, a pier or your own boat outside the trip and you need a Florida saltwater licence; residents can get a free shoreline licence. Do you take a deposit?
It depends on the captain and the trip. Deposits are common — often $100–$200 or around 20% — and they are close to standard on offshore days, peak-season tarpon dates, long charters, and anything that needs more than one boat. Some captains hold a date on a card instead. Your captain confirms the exact deposit, balance and cancellation terms in writing when you book, before you pay anything.
How big a group can you take?
Most charter boats are limited to six passengers — that is the USCG "six-pack" licence limit, not a preference — and some boats comfortably fish fewer than that. Bigger groups (corporate trips, bachelor and bachelorette weekends, family reunions) run across multiple captains together, and head boats carry larger parties.
