The north bay bars: the Bulkhead, Long Bar, and Beer Can Island (Longboat Key), plus the flats edges around Palma Sola and Anna Maria. Schools push wakes you can see 200 yards off — approach from the up-wind edge, cut the motor early, and work the perimeter with a spoon or cut bait. Late October brings the biggest schools of the year, and the same bars hold them into November. Tripletail — one of the best-eating fish on this coast — lie up beside the buoys and floats. Run the lines on a calm morning, glass each buoy, and pitch a free-lined shrimp past any fish you spot.
