Redfish in Bradenton: Palma Sola Bay, the Manatee River Mouth, and Shore Access That Works

Bradenton's redfish water is compact and honest: Palma Sola Bay, the Manatee River mouth, and the flats edging Anna Maria Sound. Palma Sola is the centerpiece, a shallow grass bay where winter negative low tides at dawn produce classic Florida sight-fishing — tailing reds on the exposed grass, pods working pothole edges, and clear water that punishes a sloppy approach.

Slow-roll a weedless gold spoon across the potholes or soak a piece of cut ladyfish ahead of moving fish. The Palma Sola Causeway on Manatee Avenue gives shore anglers real access to the same bay; fish the grass edges and sand holes within casting range on a moving tide — the surf-and-shore guide covers the setup.

The Manatee River mouth is the other half of the fishery: oyster bars, dock lines, and the shorelines off Snead Island and Emerson Point Preserve hold reds on mid to low tides, and the dredge holes give them somewhere to slide when it drains out.

Fall runs bigger fish as over-slot schools stage toward the mouth of Tampa Bay near Anna Maria Island. Note the boundary: State Road 64 splits the FWC's Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bay redfish regions right through Bradenton, so check which side you are fishing at MyFWC. Both sides currently run an 18–27-inch slot, one fish per person, two per vessel, open year-round. Fish quietly, fish the edges, and let the bait sit; a red will find it.
