Tarpon Fishing Charters in Sarasota, FL
Tarpon charters in Sarasota, FL — the May–July beach run off Lido and Siesta, Big Pass on the outgoing, and Sarasota Bay juveniles. Trips from $600.
What Makes Sarasota Different.
Sarasota's tarpon season is a beach fishery, and that is what separates it from Boca Grande. From May into July, strings of fish move north along the Gulf beaches in sight of shore, and the game is spotting a pod and putting a bait in front of it — visual, personal, and nothing like drifting in a crowd of boats over a deep hole.
Pass fishing is a numbers game. Beach fishing is a hunting game. Most anglers who have done both come back for the second one.
The run works the beaches off Lido and Siesta in clean water, and stages hard at Big Pass on a falling tide when fish funnel through the cut. Live crabs and threadfin do most of the work; the full programme is on the tarpon species page, and fly anglers should read the fly fishing guide before booking — a fly trip for rolling beach fish is the hardest and best version of this.
Juvenile tarpon hold in the bay's backcountry creeks and residential canals nearly year-round, which makes a shoulder-season shot possible when the adults have gone offshore to spawn. Not a substitute for the run, but a real option in April or August.
Tarpon are catch-and-release only in Florida, and fish over 40 inches must stay in the water — the current rules are on the FWC page and summarised in our regulations guide. Six-hour trips from $600. Peak weeks book months ahead; see charter prices for how the season moves the number.
